Geely’s Zeekr 001: Battery Options and Exciting Upgrades

Geely Group’s premium brand, Zeekr, is set to release a facelifted variant of its popular model, the Zeekr 001. The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently revealed the battery options for this new version, which will bring exciting upgrades to the table.

The Zeekr 001 restyling will come with two battery options: LFP and ternary NMC. The LFP or lithium iron phosphate pack, with a capacity of 95 kWh, will be the second Zeekr model to feature this type of battery after the 007 sedan. Manufactured by the Geely-CATL joint venture in Sichuan, China, these batteries offer a longer lifespan and are more affordable.

On the other hand, the ternary NMC battery, with a capacity of 100 kWh, boasts better energy density and weighs less at 606 kg. This option will be available for both the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and the four-wheel-drive (4WD) variants of the Zeekr 001.

The RWD model equipped with the LFP battery offers an impressive range of 722 km, thanks to its 310 kW powertrain. Meanwhile, the 4WD variant, with a combined 580 kW power output (270 kW in the front and 310 kW in the rear), can travel between 626-675 km on a single charge.

While the ternary NMC battery offers slightly shorter ranges of 750 km for the RWD model and 656-705 km for the 4WD model, it presents a more desirable option for those seeking extended cruising range.

The new Zeekr 001 facelift will feature minor exterior adjustments, including new bumpers, optional LiDAR on the roof, new rims, and a fresh body color. With dimensions of 4977/1999/1545 mm and a wheelbase of 3005 mm, the interior of the new variant will remain similar to the previous model launched in 2021.

The most significant enhancement lies in the powertrain. The RWD model will now offer an e-motor with an impressive output of 310 kW, compared to the previous version’s 200 kW. The 4WD variant takes it up a notch, with a total power output of 580 kW, thanks to a 270 kW motor in the front and a 310 kW motor in the rear. Additionally, the new Zeekr 001 can tow up to 2000 kg, adding to its versatility.

The eagerly-awaited Zeekr 001 facelift will soon debut in the Chinese market, gradually replacing its predecessor. While an international launch is on the horizon, specific details regarding its availability in overseas markets have not yet been disclosed.
